Episode #55: Jay Martin – Policy and Market Update
Today we sit down again with Jay Martin, Executive Director of the Community Housing Improvement Program. CHIP is a trade association for owners of over 400,000 rent-stabilized rental properties across New York City’s five boroughs. CHIP’s goal is to help members provide excellent and affordable housing, build a sense of community in their properties, and employ thousands of New Yorkers with their small businesses.
In this episode, we discuss how over the past year CHIP worked with the government to effectively provide relief for owners and tenants, the impact of the “Cancel Rent” movement, and the broader impact of politics on the NYC multifamily market.
We further dive into the nuances of the rental market, the short and long term future of rentals in NYC, and the legal challenge brought by CHIP against rent control itself.
Let’s go behind the bricks with… Jay Martin.
