Zohran Mamdani has not been elected Mayor of New York City.
He scored a decisive victory – but this was just a primary, not the general election.
Anyone right of socialist or communist ideology should take a breath — and take note.
According to Polymarket, just two months before the election, Mamdani had a 4.0%
chance of winning. Kudos to him for running a well-organized campaign. The
compliments stop there.
Plenty of Time Until November
Mamdani pulled this off in two months. We have four to make sure he doesn’t get the keys to City Hall. That’s more than enough time. We have an opportunity to unite 80+% of voters who fall anywhere right of socialism. Most people want nothing to do with this type of leadership — they’d be thrilled with almost any responsible, reasonable adult in charge.
Let’s make that happen…
Lessons from Mamdani’s Campaign
1. Team Up
The far left cross-endorses and clears the field. If you’re in their way, they’ll come for you — this is likely how they’ll govern as well.
Action: If Cuomo or Adams care about the future of NYC, they’ll find a way to keep
Mamdani out of office — even if it means sacrificing their own political ambitions.
2. Everything Is Free
Mamdani ran a campaign like a high school class president: free ice cream and extra recess. No talk of cost, complexity, or consequences.
Action: Expose reality. Interview bodega owners. Ask how a “free” grocery store would impact their business. Voters need to hear it from real people — not just pundits.
3. Go All In on Our Strengths
Action: We have the majority. We have a sound economic policy. We have logic. Let’s use it.
4. Simplicity Wins
Hyper-focus on three core issues. Offer simple, digestible solutions. If a high school
student can nod along, you’re doing it right.
Action: Make it visual. Make it repeatable. Stick to practical outcomes — not idealistic moralizing.
5. Socialism Fails
Action: Cite real-world examples. Show how socialist policies have hurt everyday people. Be bold and unapologetic — the louder the better.
6. NIMBYism
Far-left city council members have killed housing plans again and again. More Mamdani means more of that.
Action: Find the number of affordable housing units that were killed by far-left city
council members. Keep repeating it loud and clear, over and over again.
Considerations for Property Owners
Should you sell now or wait? It’s a personal decision — no single right answer. But one thing is certain: hope is not a business plan.
Ask yourself: What if values go up 10%? What if they drop 10%? How will that impact what I’m trying to accomplish?
Even if Mamdani loses in November, the far left isn’t going anywhere. You either get comfortable being uncomfortable, or you get out.
NYM has been the market leader in selling rent-stabilized buildings — proving that
despite the obvious challenges, there’s still a deep market for regulated assets in NYC.
Be proactive. Make a plan! NYM is here to help.
Gratitude & Forward Thinking
We have four months to unite around a better alternative — and that’s plenty of time. As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, it’s a good moment to remember how lucky we are to live in a country where these debates can happen at all. It’s been 249 years since we declared our independence, and there’s still no other country I’d rather call home.
This year, as you watch the fireworks with your kids, remember anything is possible — including turning this city around.
